About Keloid Scar Removal
At Bellair Laser Clinic we use steriod injections to remove keloid scars. When we inject a steroid injection into a keloid scar we are treating the keloid on many levels.
Steroid injections work by preventing the rubbery material that makes up the cells of the keloid scar from producing collagen. As they weaken the scar they are also encouraging the keloid scar to flatten. Steriod injections also reduce the itchiness and tenderness of the scar if present.
Keloid Scar Injection Treatment
Keloid scar injections are a quick, in-office treatment that uses a fine needle to deliver a corticosteroid directly into the scar tissue. The medication works by reducing inflammation and breaking down the dense collagen that gives keloids their raised, firm appearance.
Most appointments take about 15 minutes from start to finish. The injection may sting briefly; an ice pack can help ease any discomfort. Sessions are typically spaced four weeks apart, and a series of treatments is recommended. Over time, the scar gradually flattens, softens, and becomes less itchy or painful.

Keloid Scar Removal FAQs
Questions we hear most often.
What Are Keloid Removal Treatment Intervals?
Treatment intervals are 4-6 weeks apart.
What Are Symptoms Of Keloid Scars?
Keloid typically starts to develop about three months after the original skin damage although it can take up to a year. The first thing you will probably notice is that rubbery scar tissue starts growing beyond the borders of the original damage. It may become tender, itchy, painful or produce a burning sensation. Sometimes keloid develops without any apparent skin injury, although most people can identify a cause. The common areas are the breastbone, shoulder, earlobe and cheek. Keloid growing over a joint can restrict movement. In time, the original red colour changes to brown or becomes pale.
How Effective Are Kenalog Injections?
Studies show that kenalog injections suppress inflammation and mitosis while increasing vasoconstriction in the scar. Triamcinolone acetonide suspension (Kenalog) 10 to 40 mg per mL (depending on the site) is injected intralesionally, which, although painful, will eventually flatten 50 to 100 percent of keloids, with a 9 to 50 percent recurrence rate.
Do Kenalog Injections Prevent Scarring?
Kenalog injections may decrease the risk of scarring but generally it does not prevent scars. Those who have severe acne are likely to develop scars post inflammation from acne.
