About Belkyra
Belkyra is a non-surgical injectable that permanently dissolves stubborn double chin fat, sculpting a more defined and youthful jawline.
Our board certified plastic surgeon, Dr Peter Bray, was among the first Canadian physicians to be trained to perform this procedure at the product launch on January 30, 2016 in Toronto.
What Is Belkyra?
Belkyra is composed of deoxycholate, a synthetic non-animal chemical that can disrupt the cell membrane of fat cells and are then naturally processed by the body. Deoxycholate is found naturally in our own bodies to break down the fat we eat. The product we inject is indistinguishable from what is found circulating in our own bodies which is why Belkyra is extremely safe.
The Belkyra / Kybella Procedure
The Belkyra procedure is very simple and fast. Dr Peter Bray is a board certified plastic surgeon and is therefore able to perform the Belkyra treatment with great accuracy. He will assess and identify the area to be specifically targeted, then a thin sheet with coloured dots are placed on the skin. The sheet is then moistened with water and these small dots are transferred to the skin temporarily for the procedure. He will then inject Belkyra in a very systematic and precise fashion into the fat pocket. The treatment is then complete and you can go back to your normal activities immediately.
The injections work by dissolving the protein membranes around fat cells, allowing them to collapse and be processed naturally by the body. All you will feel is the injections themselves, which are applied with a very small needle to the area. Overall, the treatment takes only a few minutes. Follow-up treatments are booked right away so we can monitor progress and assess the need for another session. Usually 2 to 3 treatments are required depending on the amount of fat in the area.
What To Expect After the Belykyra Procedure?
Some patients will experience some swelling, bruising and soreness after the procedure, which varies in amount from person to person. Also, small areas of bruising can be common due to the injection process. You can return to normal activities immediately after the procedure. What Do Patients Generally Say About The Belkyra Treatment?
BELKYRA treatment resulted in high patient satisfaction 79% of BELKYRA-treated patients reported satisfaction with their appearance in association with their face and chin. Patients also reported improvement in the visual and emotional impact of submental fat when asked how happy, bothered, self-conscious, embarrassed, old and overweight they felt following treatment in relation to the amount of their submental fat.
How Does Belkyra or Kybella Work?
BELKYRA is a non-human and non-animal formulation of deoxycholic acid, a naturally-occurring molecule in the body that aids in the breakdown and absorption of dietary fat. When injected into subcutaneous fat, BELKYRA causes the destruction of fat cells. Once destroyed, those cells cannot store or accumulate fat. After the aesthetic response is achieved, retreatment with BELKYRA is not expected. To avoid potential tissue damage, BELKYRA should not be injected into or in close proximity (1-1.5 cm) to the marginal mandibular nerve, salivary glands, lymph nodes and muscles.
Are There Any Adverse Side Affects Post Treatment?
The most common adverse reactions were edema/swelling, hematoma/bruising, pain, numbness, erythema and induration. BELKYRA is manufactured through a highly-controlled, FDA-regulated process and approved facility to ensure patient safety.
