About IPL for Rosacea
IPL photorejuvenation is one of the most effective treatments for evening out skin tone and addressing both red and brown discolouration.
Dilated capillaries are often provoked by sun exposure, pressure, hormonal changes and heredity, to name some common influences. Although the exact cause is often unknown, rosacea can be effectively treated with the appropriate technology such as intense pulsed light (IPL).
Rosacea can appear as red or purple tiny vessels in colour and as strands or clusters creating a general overall red appearance. Photorejuvenation is a great option for the treatment of Rosacea.
If you live with rosacea, you know the routine. The flushing that won’t calm down, the visible capillaries on your cheeks and nose, the redness that creeps back no matter what you put on it. Photo rejuvenation is one of the most studied light-based treatments for the redness side of rosacea. Pulses of light target the tiny blood vessels feeding that flush, and your body gradually clears them over the weeks that follow. It won’t cure rosacea, but it can noticeably calm the redness and visible vessels over a series of sessions. Most clients see real change in three to five visits.
Treating Rosacea With IPL
Photo Rejuvenation or photorejuvenation (also known as photofacials) with the LimeLight™ effectively treats red dyschromia such as rosacea while improving the skin’s texture and tone. The LimeLight™ Photo rejuvenation system is the first light based, 3 in 1 programmable wavelength device for skin rejuvenation. This programmable wavelength capability allows us to accurately target your skin concern revealing visible results in as little as 1-3 treatments spaced at 4 weeks apart.
When you come in for your first rosacea photorejuvenation treatment, we will begin by cleansing the skin. The face is mapped out or divided in small sections to ensure even coverage. Goggles are placed over the client’s eyes for safety. A thin layer of gel is applied to the skin. The photo rejuvenation hand piece is applied to the skin one pulse at a time. You will feel a sharp pinch with every photorejuvenation pulse.
What To Expect After the IPL Procedure
Immediately following your photofacial rosacea treatment the skin will appear slightly pink. This typically lasts a few hours to possibly a few days. During a time span of one to three weeks post your photofacial treatment, rosacea will disappear as the intense pulse light coagulates these tiny little vessels prompting the body to eliminate these tiny veins through its natural healing process. Photo rejuvenation for rosacea is suitable for skin types I to III.
Before beginning IPL rosacea treatments at Bellair Laser Clinic, we encourage all clients to visit us for a complimentary rosacea skin consultation. At this time we will analyze your skin and provide recommendations for which treatments are best for you based on your skin’s needs and your personal goals for your skin.

IPL for Rosacea FAQs
Questions we hear most often.
What Should I Avoid Before And After Treatment?
Sun exposure and tanning beds should be avoided post treatment, the use of mechanical exfoliants or harsh products such as retinol creams or glycolic acid creams, and excessive heat such as sauna or hot tubes immediately after treatment.
What Can I Expect Post IPL Rosacea Treatment?
The skin may have a pink/red appearance (erythema) post treatment for 24-48 hours. Sun spots or hyperpigmentation may appear to be darker. This darkness is the hyperpigmentation or sun damage surfacing. It will either fade, darken then fade, or darker and crust off it the pigmentation was very superficial. Overall the skin will look brighter.
Is Photorejuvenation An Option For All Skin Tones?
No, photorejuvenation is not suitable for darker skin types since one of the primary targets is melanin. Individuals with darker skins types should consider chemical peels, microdermabrasion and fraxel for improving skin texture and complexion.
How Many Photorejuvenation Treatments Are Required?
Usually 3-6 sessions are required for best results when we are trying to correct the skin from years of sun damage and wear. Once the skin has improved, many clients like to maintain their clear and vibrant skin with monthly or seasonal photofacials. Usually those prone to pigmentation will always develop sun spots therefore maintenance is required if you want to treat the newly surfaced pigment.
