About IPL Photorejuvenation
IPL photorejuvenation is one of the most effective treatments for evening out skin tone and addressing both red and brown discolouration.
It works by targeting the tiny blood vessels that cause redness and rosacea, along with the sun spots and pigmentation that build up over time. The light energy is absorbed by these areas and breaks them down, allowing your skin to gradually clear and brighten.
IPL is best suited for lighter skin types with freckles, sun damage, or superficial pigmentation. It isn’t recommended for darker skin tones or for treating larger patches of deeper pigment. While IPL is excellent for brightening the skin and addressing surface-level concerns, it doesn’t reach the deeper layers, so it’s not designed for full skin rejuvenation. If your goal is to fade pigment, refresh your complexion, and maintain a youthful glow, IPL is a great fit.
Photorejuvenation For Spots Procedure
When you come in for your first photo rejuvenation or photorejuvenation treatment, we will begin by cleansing the skin. The face is mapped out or divided in small sections to ensure even coverage. Goggles are placed over the client’s eyes for safety. A thin layer of gel is applied to the skin. The photo rejuvenation hand piece is applied to the skin one pulse at a time. You will feel a sharp pinch with every photorejuvenation pulse.
What To Expect After the IPL Procedure
After your treatment, it’s completely normal for pigmented areas to appear darker before they start to fade. Over the next several days, these spots will lift and flake off naturally, revealing fresher, more even skin underneath. Most people notice a healthy glow and a more uniform complexion in the weeks following treatment, which is why IPL is also a great option for general anti-aging maintenance.
Before beginning photo rejuvenation treatments at Bellair Laser Clinic, we encourage all clients to visit us for a complimentary photo rejuvenation skin consultation. At this time we will analyze your skin and provide recommendations for which treatments are best for you based on your skin’s needs and your personal goals for your skin. We have a variety of treatments for skin discolouration and are therefore able to provide the best possible results for sun spots of brown spots.

IPL Photorejuvenation FAQs
Questions we hear most often.
What Should I Avoid Before And After Treatment?
Sun exposure and tanning beds should be avoided post treatment, the use of mechanical exfoliants or harsh products such as retinol creams or glycolic acid creams, and excessive heat such as sauna or hot tubes immediately after treatment.
What Can I Expect Post Treatment?
The skin may have a pink/red appearance (erythema) post treatment for 24-48 hours. Sun spots or hyperpigmentation may appear to be darker. This darkness is the hyperpigmentation or sun damage surfacing. It will either fade, darken then fade, or darker and crust off it the pigmentation was very superficial. Overall the skin will look brighter.
Is Photorejuvenation An Option For All Skin Tones?
No, photorejuvenation is not suitable for darker skin types since one of the primary targets is melanin. Individuals with darker skins types should consider chemical peels, microdermabrasion and fraxel for improving skin texture and complexion.
How Many Photorejuvenation Treatments Are Required?
Usually 3-6 sessions are required for best results when we are trying to correct the skin from years of sun damage and wear. Once the skin has improved, many clients like to maintain their clear and vibrant skin with monthly or seasonal photofacials. Usually those prone to pigmentation will always develop sun spots therefore maintenance is required if you want to treat the newly surfaced pigment.
